Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cabela's.
Cashier
I recently interviewed for a job and it went really well. The whole process was easy and not scary at all. The questions were easy to understand and mostly about my background and general skills. Nothing tough or surprising came up, so it felt like a normal, comfortable chat. The person interviewing me was nice and professional, which made things feel relaxed. It was a good experience overall, definitely one of the easiest interviews I've had.
- What makes you want to join our company?

I applied and was told I'd be contacted in a day or two since they needed staff. After four days with no word, I called HR to check if they were still hiring. They confirmed they were and I should hear back soon. I waited two more days, during which I applied to three other retail places. All three contacted me before Cabela's did. But, after their interview, I chose them because they promised a nice and supportive work environment. Unfortunately, that hasn't been my experience. I've stayed for financial reasons, though I'm always worried that if I request time off for my child's doctor's appointments, I'll end up with shifts of six hours or less or get negative comments from my manager.
- How would you handle a situation where you discovered a colleague was defrauding the system or engaging in theft?
Cashier
The whole thing took about a week. I applied on the website and then got a call back asking me to come in for an interview. The managers there were super chill and made it really easy. It was a pretty standard interview. They asked me some general questions. After we finished talking, she went out to chat with another manager, then came back and offered me the job on the spot. The next step was a drug test. It was all pretty simple.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage a frustrated or angry customer?
- Describe a situation where you slightly deviated from the rules to assist a customer, unbeknownst to your manager.
- Recount a time you encountered a problem with a colleague and explain how you resolved it.
