First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at C.H. Robinson.
Sales Executive
I applied online, and heard back from the recruiter via email within 2 days to schedule a phone interview. During the phone interview, the recruiter was unsure about the commission plan for this sales role (she mentioned it was base salary + commission). She inquired about my salary expectations but lacked any details or explanation regarding the commission structure and its contribution to the overall compensation. The recruiter then attempted to describe their 'Excellent' benefits package, including 401K. I questioned the vesting schedule for the 401K, and she was unfamiliar with the term 'vested,' requiring me to explain its meaning. She seemed unaware that 401K plans can have immediate vesting or vesting over time based on service length. She had no knowledge of this or the term 'vested,' despite trying to promote their benefits. Notably, there was no company car or car allowance provided for a sales position requiring 50-75% travel across multiple states, which I found unacceptable. My previous sales roles typically included a company car or a monthly car allowance/stipend for mileage and expenses. I decided not to proceed with the position because I was unwilling to accumulate excessive mileage on my personal vehicle for business travel without proper reimbursement. It appears this company lacks professionalism and clarity regarding its offerings, or the recruiter is not well-informed about explaining the benefits. I would not want to work for such an unprofessional and disorganized company.

I applied online and heard back from a national recruiter pretty quickly who set up a phone interview. That first call was about 15-20 minutes. A couple days later, I got an email inviting me for an in-person interview at the local office. I met with a senior sales exec and an account manager for about 45 minutes. Then, 48 hours after that, they emailed me to come back for a second interview. They mentioned my skills might be a better fit for a Carrier Sales Rep role, so I got to shadow two reps for about 30 minutes and then interviewed with two managers. I got an unofficial offer the next day, and the official one came via email the following Monday. I had a week to decide, and I accepted the day after getting the official offer.

So, the interview process was pretty straightforward. It started with a phone interview, which was pretty chill and we just chatted about stuff, even my college. Then, I had two in-person interviews. These were more typical, asking about my past jobs, my schooling, and basically why I'd be a good fit. A cool part was shadowing some people in the office, which gave me a real feel for the day-to-day. It was important to use that time to connect and ask questions. They actually called me the very next day after those interviews to offer me the job.
