The interview process was well-organized and positive. The interviewer showed genuine interest in my background and how I could contribute to the team. The interview was straightforward and lasted approximately 30 minutes.
- Can you tell me about a topic you particularly enjoy writing about?

I applied online and did some test posts. The section editor contacted me a week later and gave me an edit test. They responded quickly and set up an in-person interview. It seemed to go well, and they said I'd hear back in a few days. I did, and an HR executive set up a short phone call where we talked about me and what they're looking for. A few days later, the editor asked me to expand on my original test posts. I did that...and then heard nothing. This felt really unprofessional. After all the back-and-forth and tests, they didn't even send a basic rejection or confirm they got my revisions. I know they're busy, but it's just not professional.
- Which online publications or websites do you read regularly?
Staff Writer
The interview was pretty relaxed, which helped ease the stress. It started with a standard reception greeting. The interviews were mainly with middle managers, so it's a good idea to ask them a lot of questions about your specific interests and if you'll be able to pursue them. Also, be aware of the details about benefits: they don't pay out unused vacation days if you're let go because they're an 'at will' employer. Make sure to ask about time off and if there's flexibility for working from home to see if that works for you. Definitely negotiate your salary, as their pay is lower than the industry standard. You can even bluff about your current salary – they won't check.
- What websites do you often visit?
- What do you like most about BuzzFeed?
- Where do you find your news and information?
