Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BuzzFeed.
Project Manager
The process was good and everyone I met was great. I'd totally recommend this place if you're looking for a job. The culture seems nice and people are friendly. The questions were challenging at first but I got through them.
- Can you tell me about how you foster a positive company culture?
Project Manager
The interview process was pretty simple, but the follow-up, professionalism, and organization of the experience was nonexistent. The initial phone screen was to be with the lead product manager, however, when the call came, it ended up being the would-be manager calling instead of the product manager. This resulted in some confusion and thus a not-so-smooth conversation. I made it to the second round of phone interviews which was with the HR lead whose interview composed mostly of salary, position, and knowledge of the expectations of the position. Relatively easy, and made it to the third round of phone interviews. This is where everything went downhill. The product lead was on time in calling me during our scheduled call, however, she passively apologized that she was rather busy, and walking the streets while she was interviewing me. Normally I'd expect an interviewer to have questions ready for the candidate during interviews but this was not the case. The interview ended being me asking an abundance of questions about the position and driving the overall discussion while the interviewer listened in a stoic manner, and providing one word responses, and left a very bad taste in my mouth. After the interview, the product lead stated she would follow up with the Recruiter to get back to me with next steps. That was about a month ago, and still no word of rejection, or progress. Very unprofessional, and disorganized. Would not recommend spending time studying for these interviews as the questions are relatively straight forward and no thought is put into them.
- Can you discuss your experience in your current role and explain your reasons for seeking a new opportunity?
- What are your motivations for leaving your present employer?
Project Manager
I had a phone interview with a recruiter, and then an onsite with two team members. After the onsite, I never heard back from the recruiter, which is a common thing in LA. If you interview in person, they should at least let you know. I got another offer, so I didn't follow up.
- What makes you deserving of a position at BuzzFeed?
