So first, there was a recruiter call, pretty standard stuff, you know, asking about my background and values. Then I had a 30-minute meeting with the hiring manager, which they said could be done over Skype or phone, but they requested an in-person meeting. Honestly, I think it's kind of wild to ask someone to come in for just 30 minutes, feels like they don't value your time. After that, there was a project, they said about 45 minutes, but that was a total lie. It actually took me like 3-4 hours to do it properly. It was a big project, involved talking about processes and sourcing candidates, really detailed, basically doing free work for them and redoing their candidate experience. After all that, I didn't hear back for two weeks, and then they told me they hired someone, so they weren't moving forward with me. No transparency after the project, and I think it's messed up to make candidates do free work like that.

The recruiter from Button reached out to schedule a phone interview. I shared my availability and tried to confirm the interview time. After a few days of no response, I followed up a couple of times. Finally, I had the phone interview, which lasted only 9 minutes, the shortest I've ever had. Two days later, I got a standard rejection email stating I wasn't a good fit for the job. I felt I didn't say anything wrong or give any indication of not being a fit. The interviewer spoke very quickly, didn't offer any information about the company or role, and seemed impatient when I asked questions.

Applied online for the Android Engineering role without a referral and got a response in 3 days. The interview process was fast and they were flexible with my schedule. First, I had to complete a coding challenge using their mock API. Then, there was a short call to discuss my code, my approach, and how I'd handle edge cases. This went well, so I was scheduled for an on-site interview. The whole thing from the challenge to the offer took under a month.

The interview process was challenging and interesting. I got to interact with people outside the HR team, including engineering and finance. It was a bit lengthy, but I feel it showed how thoughtful the team is. There was a case study which was very relevant to the job and a fun exercise, unlike other interviews. I also had a good chat with the hiring manager about my past work during the onsite interviews.
