This role was for a software engineer who specialized in machine learning. It began with a recruiter call, followed by two technical phone screens via video. These covered typical coding challenges and discussions about modeling strategies. Next, I attended an onsite interview which included a presentation of my past work. I then had a modeling interview with two senior engineers focusing on computer vision tasks. Finally, there was a lunch interview discussing software engineering best practices, such as setting up REST APIs and managing model and data versioning. The people I met were clearly very skilled.

This took way too long. It started with a recruiter call, then a normal interview and a product demo which was actually cool because it showed more about the job and company. After that, there were three more technical interviews. I think I wasted at least 6 hours total. The last three interviews were a drag and annoying. The interviewers were just other developers who didn't seem to want to be there or know how to interview people. During the 'in-depth coding' session, the interviewer just watched me code without saying anything. It sucks to have live coding exercises that can go either way like this. It doesn't reflect how development actually works, and I feel like I got dinged for silly, minor errors. No specific feedback was given, just the standard 'we're moving on with others' line.

I had a 45-minute on-campus interview right after a university career fair. Then, about three weeks later, I had an hour-long virtual interview with a software engineer. The questions were pretty standard Leetcode problems, but the whole process took a really long time and sometimes felt like I was being ghosted. For context, I applied to a FAANG company after this and got my offer before Butterfly Network even got back to me. The people I spoke with were nice and their work is impressive, but the slow recruitment process makes sense given they only have about 200 employees.
