Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Burns & McDonnell.
Mechanical Engineer
It was a really quick process with three interviews. First, there was a pre-recorded interview to screen me. Then, I had a virtual interview with some team members. The final interview was in-person with more team members, and it included a presentation about myself. They didn't ask any technical questions, focusing more on personality.
- Can you discuss your past project and work experience?
Mechanical Engineering Intern
I didn't get past the pre-recorded interview. After this interview, the hiring manager conducts a technical interview. I personally did not like the pre-recorded interview process, it's like a behavioral interview, but you have to record your answers, which doesn't feel like a real conversation with a recruiter.
- What makes you the ideal candidate for this position?
Mechanical Engineer Intern
I chatted with someone from the company at the university career fair, and then I had to do a pre-recorded interview. After that, a recruiter contacted me for a second interview over Teams. It was a pretty easy and chill process, and they only asked behavioral questions.
- Could you share details about your previous experience?
- What motivates your interest in working with our company?
- How would your team members characterize your contribution within a team or project?
