First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Burns & McDonnell.
Civil Engineer
They were accommodating with a quick interview process, but their communication and decision-making were inconsistent. The initial interview was virtual, followed by an in-person meeting at a coffee shop the same night. The next day, they informed me they had an offer ready and wanted me to visit the Chicago office for the presentation. However, the following day, they abruptly changed their minds, citing salary issues and the rushed nature of the process. It was a disappointing and misleading experience, especially given the firm's reputation.
- Could you provide an overview of yourself?
Structural Engineer
The interview was kinda in the middle difficulty-wise, not too hard but not super easy either. They mostly asked technical stuff that related to what I did before, so it was pretty relevant. A lot of the questions were about structural engineering concepts, how to do things, and problems you might run into in your past work.
- Were American standards and codes used in your previous role?
Structural Engineer
As a fresher, they first screen resumes. Then, they hold a technical and aptitude test at the institute. Those who pass this are eligible for the interview. The technical and HR interview is face-to-face, with 2-3 interviewers, lasting about 40-60 minutes. They ask questions about SFD, BMD, soil mechanics, and all structural design processes.
