I applied on September 1st and the whole thing took about two months. I got the first HireVue in early October. The final interview was scheduled for mid-November (it was supposed to be late November but they moved it up because I told them I had another offer). The final interview was with HR and a Buyer who had been through the program. They showed a chart and asked for observations and also asked situational questions. A tip for future candidates: point out specific colors and styles that are doing well, and identify trends you notice to back up your analysis. Be ready for a lot of follow-up questions on your observations. During the interview, I found it hard to finish my answers because they kept interrupting with follow-up questions and the Buyer was asking questions really fast, so I had to keep asking her to repeat herself. The buyer also asked about prioritizing 4 tasks to check my thought process. Make sure to mention who you would communicate these tasks to. When I asked questions that worked well at other companies, they responded with “Why are you asking that?”. For example, when I asked about handling missing data situations, the response was that Burlington doesn’t have those problems. The overall vibe felt weird, and questions about my experience seemed to be viewed negatively instead of with genuine interest about the role. Overall, the process felt long and the interview environment didn’t feel very welcoming or collaborative. I honestly think there’s some luck involved in this interview process because it really depends on who you get.

  • When they give you the chart, what would you say is doing well and what isn't?
  • Given it's the afternoon and you have these tasks to handle - communicating with vendors, a sales report to the VP due at a certain time, a meeting with buyers, and vendor inquiries - how would you prioritize them?
  • Who would you communicate your prioritized tasks to?

First interview is via HireVue, it had scenario and behavioral questions, plus retail math questions. Then there were 3 games to play. I heard back pretty quickly, like a day or two, about the Final interview with an HR rep and an assistant buyer. It was a quick intro, some mock questions using a sample review chart they sent before, and then behavioral questions. It went well.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

This was my 3rd time applying and I only went through the interview process to get a sense of their corporate culture. The first round of interview started off with a Hirevue that contained 6-8 questions - you should 100% use the retry attempt since unexpected questions will be thrown at you which you can find easily through many sources. The second round was a final round with THE senior college recruiter and senior assistant buyer which were kinda nice but had that high school vibe. Honestly, the senior recruiter did not inform me that there was a sales report during the interview even though I was told that more information will be given to me later on (which never came as I suspected), but I already knew there was one after doing my due diligence. It turned out previous candidates in the past got a sample of a sales report to look at before the interview which I didn't (fyi be prepared for 2-3 scenario questions about prioritizing vendor tasks and how to read sales report including WOS, Turnover, Sell-Thru Rate). If the store is messy at the store level, this tells a lot about their company. If you check their LinkedIn page, you can get a sense of what type of people they hire and overall.

  • How would you prioritize tasks related to vendors?
  • Can you explain how to interpret a sales report, including metrics like WOS, Turnover, and Sell-Thru Rate?
