First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Burlington Stores.
Customer Service Supervisor
I applied on a Sunday and got a call about 2 hours later to come in that Tuesday. I met with my direct manager first. Then I moved on to meet the store manager, who was really nice and clear about what they wanted. I was then asked back that Thursday to meet the HR partner. If all went well, I'd get a call. I was nervous but did my best with the HR partner, and she was a great person to talk to. The next day, I got an email for an online background consent authorization. That following Monday, I got the call saying I was chosen for the job. I felt honored because the store seems really professional.
- How do you handle stress?
- Let's discuss pay negotiations.
Customer Service Supervisor
After I submitted my online application, the manager let me have an interview. He asked me how I would approach my team members if I were above them and how I would handle difficult situations. The biggest challenge he described was motivating my team members if I were hired and making sure they completed their assignments without being harsh. He really liked me and my strong personality, saying I was responsible, mature, and seemed like I could handle anything. I have previous experience in customer service, so I thought I would definitely get the job. Until... the HR manager wanted to interview me... but no, apparently my availability wasn't enough for them (even though I had a lot of availability). I think that was just an excuse. They probably wanted someone with more retail experience and a degree for that position.
- Can you share an instance where you dealt with a challenging customer and explain your approach?
- Tell me about a time you had to handle a difficult customer and how you handled it.
Customer Service Supervisor
I spoke with three different managers over separate days. They asked standard questions about my experience in retail and customer service. Throughout the interviews, they talked about company advancements and implied many opportunities. However, this wasn't the reality.
- Could you share an instance where you exceeded expectations to provide excellent customer service?
- How would you approach managing a difficult or angry customer?
