Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Buffer.
Software Engineer
I applied three times and each time it was a written challenge that required a lot of writing and research. They wanted to know specific issues with the tool that I would like to work on. Each time I got a rejection or no response after waiting 5-6 weeks.
- Can you identify a specific area within Buffer you're interested in contributing to?
Software Engineer
I applied for the role, but I didn't get an interview. The application asked me to upload my resume and answer about 8 short answer/mini essay questions. I spent many hours over three evenings writing answers for the application. This included signing up for and downloading the app so I could provide free feedback for them, as requested in one of the questions. I got a rejection two days later. I won't waste my time on this type of application again.
- Can you provide specific feedback on our product?
Software Engineer
I didn't get past the initial stage. I answered some questions and sent in my CV. They sent an automated email saying they'd be in touch, but I only found out two weeks later by checking their jobs page that they had filled the role. I never heard back, not even an automated rejection, which was disappointing.
