First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bryant & Stratton College.
Assistant Professor
It was a relaxed and friendly chat. They asked the usual stuff like why we should bring you on board and how you'd fit in. We talked about my history and what I've done. It was professional overall. The place was a bit loud and got interrupted a few times.
- Can you elaborate on your background?
Financial Advisor
I had an email prep and documentation stage. Then a telephone screening interview with standard questions. Given my 60plus years of age and over 35 years of operations and sales management experience, I was told I needed a higher educational degree from nearly 40 years ago and my work experience meant nothing.
- Tell me about a time you went above and beyond.
Academic Success Coach
I got an email for a phone chat a week after applying. The phone chat was 15 minutes long. The next day, I was called back for a face-to-face interview the following week. I went in for the face-to-face interview and met with two managers/directors from the department. It was pretty relaxed and the ladies were really nice. They made me feel comfortable pretty quickly. They asked questions you'd expect for the job like how you'd deal with a student in a specific situation, how you'd handle disagreeing with your boss, and if you were okay with the setup, etc. They showed me around afterwards, and I was really impressed by how nice everyone was.
- What would you say to a student who calls you in a panic, saying they need to drop classes because of work and family commitments?
- How would you approach a situation where you disagreed with a program or a change your boss wanted to implement?
- Besides your previous work history, what other experiences do you think would be valuable for this role?
Admissions Representative
I got a call from HR and interviewed with them. Then I interviewed with the admissions representative and was offered an in-person interview. Honestly, I feel like she only offered me to come in because I asked about next steps, mentioning that nobody got back to me last time I applied. She then interviewed me in person and the first thing she said was that a concern she had was my lack of experience in a higher education job, which was really frustrating because I wanted to walk out and ask why she interviewed me if she didn't want to hire me due to lack of experience. I finished the interview knowing I didn't get the job from the start, especially since she didn't offer an in-person interview until I asked. It was rude that she had no intention of hiring me but still wasted my time with an interview. For the record, I was a college student last month when interviewed. I have an associates in business and am almost done with my bachelors. I also have sales/customer service experience from an HR internship, so it's not like I had no experience, but obviously a 20-year-old won't have many years under their belt. After this interview, I'll never reapply to Bryant and Stratton... who starts an interview like that? So unprofessional. She said she'd get back to me by next week, but I knew she wouldn't. I got a rejection email a month later. Also, they changed the requirement to a bachelors after I applied, when it was originally an associates.
- What drives you?
- What concerns you about my lack of higher education experience?
