Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brooks International.

First, listened to the CEO for about 30 minutes, then had a 10-minute slot with a recruiter, though I waited about an hour. That went well, and the next step was a 1:1 with a more senior recruiter, which also went well. They record every interview. Then, I was given a case study to complete in an hour, which I found pretty easy. After that, I reviewed and explained my work to a senior executive who said I got 100% correct. The final step involved preparing two presentations based on their materials, taking about 6-8 hours. On the interview day, I had technical difficulties with the Teams meeting; I was in the wrong room initially and then had audio issues that seemed to be on their end, but it was used against me. After all these rounds and preparation, I felt my time was wasted as they didn't hire me.

I was first contacted by a recruiter, then had a one-way interview over Skype. After that, there was a two-way Skype interview that included a case study. The final part was a half-day in-person interview in Palm Beach.
- In Palm Beach, you'll have a one-on-one with a managing partner, and there will be a role-play exercise that's quite difficult and hard to prepare for. Additionally, there will be some group exercises to assess your teamwork, communication, leadership, and ability to follow.
- Tell me about a time you had to work in a team.
- Describe your communication style.

So I worked with Brooks International as a contractor for over five years, and it felt like the timing and opportunity finally clicked. Initially, I had a couple of calls with their recruiter over two weeks, which then led to a Skype interview with the CEO, Lui. He actually interviews everyone who joins Brooks, which caused some delays and date changes to work around his schedule. While I appreciated Lui giving an overview of the company, his role, the 2015 outlook, and my specific project, the logistics of the interview could be better. During the call, he asked basic questions about my project experience, leadership experience, life and work goals, and what I expected for compensation. The interview seemed to end abruptly after we discussed my day rate, with him saying it wasn't a good fit. I thought that was it, especially after the compensation talk, but three days later, they called asking me to join as a contractor for an immediate need. The Project Director made the decision, and the rate was acceptable. Brooks wants to reduce reliance on contract consultants and build up their core team, which sounds like a good idea if they have enough consistent work to support their team during slower periods.
