I got an email to schedule a zoom interview. The interview happened a couple of weeks after. Two people from Brooklyn Defenders interviewed me via zoom. I heard back three weeks later, but I didn't get a second interview.

I went through a two-stage interview process. It took them weeks to respond. The second interview involved a hypothetical scenario and a request to discuss a legal area you know well. Be ready for the hypothetical; you'll need to address a client and then a state's attorney and present an argument quickly. My interview was during finals week, so make sure to allocate sufficient time for it.

Behavioral Case Presentation

The interview process started with a standard first interview where they asked basic questions about my interest in family defense. The second interview was more in-depth. They presented a hypothetical situation and asked me to interview a 'client' with limited time. Following that, I had to present the case to a judge, and the interviewers offered feedback. They also wanted me to discuss a legal issue I've encountered.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you discuss a legal issue you have experience with?

Technical Case

I went through an initial OCI interview. It was short but intense. They skipped the usual 'why do you want to work here' questions and went straight into hypos. It was a tough interview, but I felt good about it afterwards. I think I didn't get the job because I lacked sufficient Crim Pro/Evidence knowledge to fully answer their hypothetical questions. Stand your ground. After not getting the offer, I got a letter in the mail.
