It was disorganized and unprofessional. They offered an in-person or video interview, and I picked video, which they scheduled around my availability. Four people with different titles interviewed me, asking questions and listening to my answers. The questions were fair, and I felt comfortable and respected during the interview. When I asked my questions, they said I should ask HR. I emailed HR afterward to thank everyone and ask my questions again. HR didn't reply, which was weird, but I figured they're busy. A week later, HR emailed to set up a second interview. I was surprised they didn't answer my questions. I replied, still interested but wanting answers. No response. Two days later, HR emailed again, checking if I got their last email. It was clear my questions wouldn't be answered, so I scheduled the second interview. On the day, I was ready for the video call, but no one called. I checked my emails and confirmed the time. After 15 minutes, I called HR and left a message saying there might be a mix-up but I'd wait. 40 minutes after the start time, I got texts saying they were running late but ready. Since I took time off work, I texted back that I couldn't do it anymore. They called, which I didn't like because I was at my office. Then another text to call them back. I did, and they said I scheduled it for later and were now ready. I calmly explained that wasn't true and showed them the emails. They apologized and asked if I could do it the next day. I then withdrew my application and thanked them. This was a really strange experience, and I hope others don't go through it.

I applied for the Investigator position through idealist.org and the Hiring Manager e-mailed me to set up an interview. When I got to Bronx Defenders, the Hiring Manager met me and took me to a room where three executives interviewed me. They asked questions like: "Do you feel comfortable investigating cases which have to do with murder, rapes, or drugs?", "Do you feel you can assist the legal attorney to collect as much information as possible to support the defense?", "Tell us why you want to become an investigator", and "Do you feel comfortable in a certain scenario where you have to gather information from the victim and the victim is in the hospital crying, being violent, etc?". They didn't ask about my strengths, weaknesses, or passions. I'm still waiting to hear about the job. The place seemed professional and the environment was positive, especially considering it's in the south Bronx.

I met with 4 people at once. They were all very friendly and the conversation flowed easily. They asked a range of questions about my background, my interest in the position, and why I chose criminal defense. They also asked if I'm comfortable working with people accused of crimes, like rape.
