First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bristol West Insurance Group.
Liability Claims Representative
I applied for the job and the first step was meeting with a recruiter. Then, about two weeks later, I had my interview. It was one of the best interviews I've had recently; the managers were patient and kind. They even reworded questions to make them easier to understand and answer. About a week after the interview, I got the offer, so the whole hiring process took around three weeks. I started my new job about a month after that. The training has been really detailed with a great instructor, and I'm excited about the role. I'd recommend Bristol West Insurance.
- Questions about customer service were asked.
- Questions testing critical thinking skills were asked.
Claims Adjuster
You apply on the Farmers Insurance website. First, there's a phone chat with HR, then an in-person interview. Dress sharp and be ready, it's your only shot. You'll meet 2-3 supervisors for a chat that's mostly about your past experiences. If they like you, you'll hang out with an employee while they talk to the branch manager about you. Then, you'll meet the branch manager, who might try to intimidate you to see how you handle it. After that, they'll let you know they're considering you and you'll wait for a call about the next steps. I got an offer two days later from a senior supervisor. The pay was a bit less than I hoped, and they're tough negotiators, so don't try to haggle too much unless you're a pro salesman. If you accept, the background check takes about 3 weeks to a month. Then, congrats, you're in!
- Tell me about how you handle stressful situations.
- Describe a time you had to deal with an angry customer.
- Have you ever been in a position where you had to deviate from company policy?
Liability Claims Representative
I applied on the Farmers website and got a call from HR for a phone interview where we talked about my background and why I'm interested in claims. They scheduled a panel interview for the following week. This panel interview was unique, with seven people and it was the third of five rounds for the day. The Branch Manager joined us to discuss the company and the open positions. Then, we were divided into smaller groups, with one candidate and two senior managers in each room. They asked basic, scenario-based questions like 'tell me about a time...' and if I didn't have examples, they'd ask for them. Afterward, we shadowed an employee while our answers were reviewed with the hiring manager. It seemed like the first cut happened here, as I only saw three of the original seven interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was friendly and asked more STAR-based questions, including my salary expectations and if I had any questions. They mentioned training starts in a month and I should hear back by the end of the week. I received an offer the next day and accepted it, with a start date pending.
- Can you share an instance where you had to negotiate?
- How do you manage prioritizing tasks, and what's your method for selecting which ones to focus on?
Liability Claims Representative
Started with a phone call with HR. Then immediately went to an in-person interview with a panel of 4: 2 claims supervisors, HR, and the director. Upon entering the room, I was given a paper with a question and told to write a page to answer it within 5 minutes. After that, the panel came in. The interview was competency-based, requiring all answers in STAR format, and they'd interrupt if I didn't start that way. The panel asked a lot of questions, unlike other interviews. They all wrote down everything I said during my answers, which felt impersonal. It lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, with around 30 questions total, 8-10 requiring past professional experience examples. The decision was supposed to be by the end of the week, then pushed back another week. It's been months with no follow-up.
- Be ready for every interview question you can imagine.
