First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brilliant.org.
Software Engineer
Started with a generic phone screen with an external recruiter. Then had a meeting with the director of engineering / hiring manager over Google Meet. After that, there was a take-home technical assessment. I was told my solution was 'good', but not 'great' and no other feedback was given. The take-home assessment was supposed to be paid, but the internal recruiter has ghosted me since I finished it and I haven't been paid. It feels a bit sus...

Game Designer
I went through a lot of interviews, and they were all super long. I got really good feedback, but Brilliant totally ghosted me after I met with the co-founder. After three weeks, I asked the hiring manager what was up and got no answer, so I reached out to someone else I interviewed with. They told me that the role wasn't being hired for anymore and they decided to create a contract position instead. It's pretty messed up for a company to take up so much of someone's time and then not even bother to say the job isn't available anymore.

Strategy Manager
It was a case study followed by a full day of interviews, which felt extremely long. Given how much time I invested, I'm really disappointed they didn't even respond. It makes me question if I'd want to work for a company that doesn't respect a candidate's time. I agree with others that they're super slow. Seriously, don't bother, find a company that actually knows how to hire.

Product Manager
I had an initial 1-on-1 chat to figure out the best role for me. After we decided on Product Manager, I got a take-home assignment with no strict deadline. Unfortunately, I didn't pass that stage, but I got a lot of super helpful feedback about what they were looking for, how my submission was received, how it stacked up against others, and what I could have done differently. I followed up with more questions and got even more detailed feedback. It was a really great experience, I felt supported even though I didn't get the job.
- Can you outline your approach to enhancing the depth and quality of user engagement on Brilliant?
