QA Engineer
So, the interview process started with a basic chat with HR. Then, there was a tech phone interview where they asked questions about my resume, had me design test cases for an e-reader, gave me a very easy coding problem, and a simple SQL question. After that, I had a behavior phone interview, which was pretty standard. The final stage was the on-site, which involved three technical interviews, each about 40 minutes, mainly focusing on test case design and network stuff. They also gave me a take-home assignment to write test cases for Gmail, which took about 4 hours. Oh, and about the reimbursement form, HR sent it and said it would take a month. It's been 2 months, and I still haven't gotten reimbursed, and neither have others I spoke to who interviewed the same day. I emailed HR but got no response. I only claimed money for an airport shuttle and one dinner, and this whole situation makes me really uncomfortable.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- How would you design test cases for an e-reader?
- Can you solve this very easy coding problem?
Quality Assurance Engineer
I applied through my college recruiting site. First, I had a take-home assignment where I had to write a test strategy for the Yahoo registration page and the CNN site. After passing that round, I had a phone interview. In that interview, they asked me to write test cases for a vending machine, some SQL queries, and a string-related program. They also asked me some HR questions. The interview wasn't too difficult.
- What test cases would you write for a vending machine?
- Could you write some SQL queries?
- Can you write a program that deals with strings?
QA Engineer
It started with a coding assignment, which was available for 2 weeks. Once started, it had to be completed within 48 hours. After that, there were 3 phone interviews: one technical, one behavioral, and one ad-hoc. The process concluded with an in-house interview. On the morning of the in-house interview, there were several 1:1 technical interviews. In the afternoon, I worked on a coding assignment. The overall interview process was okay. Everyone seemed nice, and they reimbursed my travel expenses. The only downside was the long wait of over 2 months for the final decision after the in-house interview. As a startup, they are very selective about both personality and coding skills. The phone interviews focused more on personality, while the in-house interview was more about coding.
- Tell me about common personality and behavioral questions, such as your strengths and weaknesses, and what your former manager would comment on you.
- Coding assignment: design a test plan and write a test script for a JavaScript based webpage game.
