First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bridgewater Associates.
Software Developer
I spoke with a recruiter first, then had a 1-hour coding interview. After that, there was a behavioral interview, followed by another coding interview. If I had gotten past the coding interview, I would have had a final general interview with senior, non-technical people from the company.

Bridgewater's hiring process is quite involved, with a lot of steps even before the actual interviews. I went through two phone screens, a coding challenge to complete at home, took about five personality tests, watched 10-15 videos about their company culture, and then had an all-day interview at their office, which lasted about 8 hours and involved meeting 10-15 people. The culture videos emphasized open-mindedness and a lack of egos, but my interview experience felt the opposite at times, with some interviewers coming across as condescending and exhibiting ego. Some questions felt like personal attacks, but I understand that's part of their culture. There was a 2-hour culture session focused on how I'd react to feedback, and based on my personality test results, it suggested I might not be a good cultural fit. The interview included two whiteboarding sessions where we discussed problem-solving approaches, specifically for backend engineering and algorithmic challenges. While the role wasn't the right fit for me, the personality tests were insightful, and I appreciated being able to see my management style results.

I had a strange experience with this company. I was given a straightforward coding test. While I didn't immediately recall some design pattern names, I could provide the answers once they were explained. The interview involved one senior interviewer and several junior interviewers. The senior interviewer seemed quite rigid with limited object-oriented design experience. The junior interviewers also appeared uncertain at times and struggled to grasp some of the design concepts they asked me about. Overall, the environment felt somewhat manufactured.
- Can you explain the Dependency Inversion Principle?
