First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bridgewater Associates.
Human Resources
I had one phone interview. It was very much about making sure that I would be a cultural fit; they give feedback on a regular basis. They wanted to make sure that I could handle negative criticism. The phone interview was conducted by someone on the recruiting team. They also reviewed my background.
- How would you react to criticism?
Human Resources
I reached out to a recruiter on LinkedIn because I was familiar with the company and liked their principles. I applied for one role, but the recruiter thought another position would be a better fit. I got sent three personality tests, which took about 1.5 hours. The following week, I was invited for an in-person interview. The day lasted 10 hours and included several interviews. I was with other candidates for the same job for the first part of the day. We started with a debate on a current topic, then did a case study, followed by a culture fit assessment. After lunch, the other candidates left, and I didn't see them again, so I don't know if they advanced. They expressed strong interest in me, and the rest of the day involved 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 meetings with hiring managers. These were mostly about who I am, what my concerns might be, and if I'd be a good culture fit. I really enjoyed the day; it was the first interview where I felt I could be myself and didn't need to oversell myself. They genuinely want to know if you're eager to learn, contribute, and align with their unique culture. The people there are very bright. Don't pretend to be someone you're not; they'll see through it. If you're not a good fit, you'll be unhappy even if you get the job. I received an offer about a week later and got to choose which team I wanted to join.
- The questions asked were all very straightforward.
- Nothing was difficult.
Human Resources
This interview was pretty strange, felt like they were trying to find someone unconventional. I'm still getting calls for this job nine months later, which is wild. The day started with me being led to a small room and told I was in the wrong chair, which was weird. They then brought in another chair. I suspect they were recording the interview. Two recruiters came in for the first part. One was young, maybe 3 years out of college, wearing jeans and with her foot up. The other recruiter was also young and had only been there a few months. I was given a paper with topics like 'selling organs on the open market', 'US oil supply', and 'teacher tenureship' and asked to pick one to discuss for about 45 minutes. It had nothing to do with the job. Then I met with two HR people: a benefits person and an employee relations person who had only been there 10 weeks. The benefits person seemed to have been hired for the role I was interviewing for and might report to me, which seemed odd. The whole experience felt like the Twilight Zone. Ultimately, it wasn't a fit for anyone.
