Software Engineering Manager
So I was cold reached out by a Brex recruiter. First up was a 1-hour chat with a hiring manager, felt like they were just reading questions and taking notes, not really a conversation and they didn't try to sell the role. Then it took a week to hear back, and when I followed up, the recruiter called me saying they liked me and wanted to move on. The next step involved another recruiter explaining the virtual onsite, but they had to reschedule our intro call last minute. On the rescheduled call, which started late, this new recruiter asked me stuff I'd already covered. The virtual onsite itself was pretty interesting and tough, gave me a feel for the company, but also made me pretty sure I didn't want to work there due to work-life balance concerns, frequent re-orgs, and PMs micromanaging timelines. A week after the onsite, I got an email saying I was rejected, and no feedback was given, even when I asked.
- Can you describe a time when...
Engineering Manager
It started with an initial screen, then an 'on-site' which was done remotely. They asked one systems design question, and the rest were more management-focused, like conflict role-play, recruiting strategies, and manager values. The recruiter was super helpful, giving me a heads-up on what each interviewer was looking for, so I could prep examples. No surprises, and their help let me do my best. They really seemed to dig into cultural fit, which I thought was good and showed what they were after in a manager. All in all, a really positive experience with kind people.
- Tell me about a standard systems design question.
- Describe your approach to recruiting.
- How do you collaborate with recruiters?
Software Engineering Manager
The whole interview experience was great. I really enjoyed talking with the recruiter and all the people I interviewed with. The recruiter was super helpful and always got back to me quickly, and the interviewers were really engaged. The actual interview process felt pretty standard for a tech company.
- A mix of questions about past experiences, how you'd handle hypothetical situations, and your technical skills.
- The questions covered behavioral, situational, and technical aspects.
