First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Breakthrough Collaborative.
Teacher
It was a good interview experience. I don't recall the interviewer's name, but she was quite pleasant. The questions were straightforward and situational, focusing on hypothetical leadership and teamwork scenarios.
- Can you give an example of what makes you a good problem-solver?
Teaching Fellow
The interview process consisted of a single round, lasting about an hour, where I was interviewed alongside three other candidates by a panel of program managers. It was focused on core values, and I was given follow-up steps at the end. I received an offer within three days.
- Can you share an instance where you championed equity?
Teaching Fellow
The interviewer was really nice and made me feel welcome. They asked me why I picked Breakthrough NY and then posed some classroom-based scenario questions. They also wanted to know if I was familiar with the company's core values and which one I connected with the most. We had time for my questions at the end too.
- Tell me about a leadership experience you're proud of and the obstacles you faced and what you achieved.
- Share an instance where you received feedback.
Manager
The hiring process involved submitting a cover letter, questionnaire, and résumé. This was followed by a phone screening with the Chief of Staff. Unfortunately, I didn't advance past the phone screen, so I'm unsure about subsequent stages. This interview experience was quite unusual, and I questioned if the hiring team was properly trained on effective interviewing techniques. It was challenging to convey my enthusiasm for the role given how the interview unfolded. The questions didn't relate to my qualifications or skills, but instead focused on my questionnaire responses, almost as if they doubted the truthfulness of what I wrote. Perhaps a more streamlined process without the extra application materials would be beneficial.
- Regarding your questionnaire response about aiming to be a high school placement director for an organization that places students in public and private schools, could you elaborate on the reasoning behind this specific aspiration?
