First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Brain Balance.
Sensory-Motor Coach
When I arrived for the interview, I had to fill out an application packet in person, even though I had already completed an online application and sent in my resume and cover letter. They asked me some questions about myself, my goals, and my availability. The interviewer couldn't tell me about the pay, the hours, or the client load. Afterward, I got to watch a session and see a coach in action. I wasn't impressed with the company; their website suggests their approach is research-based, but the interviewer mentioned the founder based the program on trials with his own kids. The coach I observed appeared to be a high school student and just led the children through computer and balance activities in a small, uninspiring room.

- What are your career goals?
- What is your availability?
Cognitive Behavior Specialist
I had a call with the Center Director which went super well. She confirmed everything from the job posting and explained how the centers work. We also confirmed my desired pay. The next day, I had a virtual interview on Google Meet with the Center Director and the Owner of the North Austin (Round Rock) location. This went well too, but then they told me the pay range from the posting and that I confirmed with the Center Director wasn't actually what they were offering. They said they just listed that but already had a set rate in mind, and the benefits in the posting weren't available either. This was really misleading and disappointing since I've wanted to get into this field for a while and I spent hours on my cover letter, researching the company, and making notes for the interview. When I brought up the discrepancy, they didn't apologize or take responsibility, just made an excuse about "multiple people working on this." They still offered me the job, but I declined because I didn't feel comfortable proceeding.
- What is your understanding of Brain Balance, and how does your background align with being a great fit for this position?
- Can you explain how your experience makes you a suitable candidate for this role?
Assistant Director
I applied online and got an interview email within 30 minutes. I confirmed the time and got a reply quickly. The interview was on Friday of the same week I applied. It was with 3 people: the center director, program director, and one other person. The interview went well and was easy. I was told I'd hear back the following week about the job. It's been 2 weeks since then with no word. I emailed the initial contact person, but she hasn't responded in 2 weeks, which is strange given her quick replies at first. I was really excited about this program, but now I'm disappointed by the lack of communication.
- Can you describe your experience working with children who have special needs?
Coach
Applying was straightforward. About a week after submitting my resume, I received a phone call. This led to a group interview. They actually hire two individuals for each role and then put them both through training, essentially making them compete. The final decision is based on who performs better during this training period. I'm not entirely sure what happens to the other person afterward, whether they are offered a different role or something else.
- Can you tell me about your experience working with children?
- Describe a time you encountered a conflict at work and how you resolved it.
