Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Director
The process started when I walked in looking for a job. An assistant met me and sent me to the main center director. The director was on a call, so I waited. I introduced myself, stated my purpose, and gave them my resume. The director scheduled an interview for the next day. It started with a phone call, followed by a 2-on-1 interview with the Director and Assistant Director. After that, I was offered the job, pending a background check. The interview was super casual; the director was eating lunch and checking their phone.
- Do you have a partner who might affect how you work?
Director
After applying, I waited about 3 weeks to hear back. The first interview was a 30-minute video call with 3 area directors where they asked general questions. It took another 2 weeks to find out if I was moving on. The second interview was a week after that. This one was also a video call, with the COO and 2 Area Directors. They made an offer 4 days after that. The whole thing went pretty well, except for that long 3-week wait.
- What makes you want to join the Boys and Girls Club?
- What's your reason for leaving your current role?
- What are your expectations for your managers or leaders?
Director
I interviewed with the director and programs manager. They were both very friendly and engaged. They initially said it was a casual interview, but the 4 pages of questions suggested otherwise. They asked personal, situational, and leadership questions, as well as questions about what I would do in the position. We connected well, and while I didn't get the job because it went to an internal candidate, I enjoyed the process, and they made it easy.
- What is your definition of integrity?
- Could you describe your leadership style?
