Product Manager
So the interview process at Box started with a recruiter screen to chat about my background, why I was interested, and if I seemed like a good fit. After that, I had a hiring manager interview to dive deeper into my experience and how I could help the team hit its goals. Honestly though, the hiring manager was super aggressive and confrontational, which made it feel more like an interrogation than an interview. The next step was a virtual onsite with a few different parts: a design interview focusing on my problem-solving skills, an engineering interview to see how I'd work with the tech folks, and a 'bar raiser' interview to check on leadership potential and cultural alignment. The whole thing wrapped up with a case presentation to the hiring manager and one of their peers, but again, the hiring manager totally took over, interrupting a lot and not giving the peer much chance to talk. In the end, I didn't get an offer, and honestly, I was relieved because it made me realize the culture wouldn't have been a good fit and I wouldn't have enjoyed working there.

Product Manager Intern
This was the first time they were hiring for this role, and they didn't really have a clear idea of what the job description should be. They also hadn't planned any specific projects for the interns. The recruiter was out of office several times during the process and then just stopped responding. The interviews were spread out, and they didn't try to speed things up for me. I had to reach out to the hiring managers myself to find out they decided to go with someone else. Also, 5 rounds feels like a lot for an intern position.
- Tell me about a product you like and how you'd make it better.
- What do you hope to get out of this internship?
- Describe your approach to communicating with stakeholders.
Product Manager
The process started with a single phone chat, then moved to an onsite where I had to give a presentation and do 1:1 interviews with about 6-7 people. The recruiter was really good about staying in touch. We finished up with lunch onsite before they gave me the offer.
