The whole thing took about a month. An HR recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn since I was open to new roles. The recruiter was really nice and explained the whole process so I knew what to expect. After chatting with the recruiter, she set up a one-hour phone screen with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was also super friendly and we had a great talk about engineering challenges, team building, and how my background fit the role. Things went well, so I got scheduled for the first of two onsite interviews. I met the hiring manager again, where we talked about behavioral and management stuff. Later that day, I met with a Director and a Staff Engineer to give a presentation on a technical project I worked on, including the architecture, decisions, and trade-offs. A few days later, they said it went well and wanted me back for a second and final onsite. The second onsite was pretty fun. I was impressed they actually tested my technical breadth, which is rare for leadership roles, and I was excited to connect with the engineers. The first part of the day, I met with the department Director for more behavioral, management, and cultural fit questions. I also got to have lunch with one of the founders, which was cool. The tech interviews on front-end architecture and an open-ended design question were super fun and engaging, and I liked that they focused a lot on this. Lastly, I had a competing offer from another big social media company, but it wasn't really a contest because Box offered me a top-notch compensation package. Plus, the CEO called me to answer any extra questions, showing they really wanted me. I ended up signing with Box! The interview process overall was smooth, and they were flexible with my start date.

I was contacted by a recruiter and then spoke with the hiring manager. The hiring manager's exact words were 'the recruiters WANTED ME to talk to you so here we are'. When I asked him what he would change about Box, he responded with 'Oh I wouldn't change anything about it, it's perfect, it's great, there's not a single thing I would change, it's the greatest place I've worked with'. This was a definite RED FLAG.

The interview process was one of the best I've experienced. The recruiter was really helpful and paid attention to everything. The hiring manager and the people on the panel were all pros and very nice. They gave me a really good understanding of the company, what they care about, and what they're trying to achieve. By the end, I felt like I really connected with this awesome group of people.
