Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Bowery Valuation.
Valuation Associate
The hiring process took over 13 weeks, with long periods of silence after being told I was moving forward. Ultimately, I wasn't offered the position despite feeling my communication was strong and well-received by interviewers. I had relevant experience and asked thoughtful questions. Most of the interviews were behavioral, though some technical questions were asked due to my background. The excel assessment was simple. This company has a questionable reputation, and their disorganization was evident throughout the interview. I received a standard rejection email after completing all stages.
- Could you complete this practice excel valuation on a multi-unit apartment building and explain your reasoning behind the chosen methods or numbers?
Valuation Associate
It starts with a phone screening from a recruiter or HR, covering basic experience, location willingness, and start date acceptance. If that works out, you'll schedule a technical interview. This might be with a high-level person, like the CEO, via Zoom, lasting about an hour. You'll need to answer questions and complete an Excel file with basic math problems, potentially drawing on real estate knowledge. They might even give you a second chance if you make a mistake. If the technical part goes well, there's a final interview in three 30-minute segments (1.5 hours total). This includes meeting peers in your role, people from technology departments who'll share insights about the company's tech, and someone more senior, possibly your future manager. Success leads to an offer.
- Regarding willingness to relocate, are you open to working in the specified location?
- Are you amenable to the potential start date provided?
- Complete basic mathematical problems within an Excel spreadsheet, following instructions carefully.

The whole interview thing took about 3-4 weeks. I got contacted on LinkedIn by a Senior Recruiter. We had a phone screen call where we did Q&A. I said I was interested, and then I had to do a case study on Excel by myself the next week. The week after that, I got feedback on the case study. Even though I messed up pretty bad, the co-CEO helped me figure out what I did wrong and let me fix it. Lastly, I had 2 rounds of behavioral interviews. First, I talked to 2 associates for 30 mins, then a 15 min Q&A with a software dev (if I had questions about the software), and then the last 30 mins was with the office leadership.
