I applied online through Indeed and the company website, then there's a short assessment. If passed, you usually get an in-person interview. However, for me, I was told to be at the Cardiff Queen Street Boots store at 12 pm on Oct 31st, 2025. I arrived early as instructed, but after waiting about 15 minutes, I was told I wasn't on the list for the 12 pm interviews and that they were all being held as a group interview at 4 pm. Someone accused me of going to the wrong store, but after showing my email, it was confirmed I was at the right place but had been sent the wrong time. I was taken to the deputy manager's office where they printed an interview pack. We discussed my availability, past employment, why I want to work there, and why they should hire me. The manager even mentioned I'd be offered a role in either the fragrance or operations department. They took my number and said that was it. I asked if I needed to stay for anything else, like a shop floor demonstration of offers and products to show customer service skills, which is common for Christmas temp jobs. But she said no, I could leave for the day and they would call me. I then received a blunt email saying I wasn't successful, followed by another saying a decision is still being made, which is confusing. I even applied for a different store, and the assessment was totally different from the one I did less than a week before. It's quite a shock, especially since I worked for Boots before in 2009 and 2013, and it wasn't this disorganized.

Had a casual chat with the manager about my background, shift availability, contract duration, and hours. Then, I did a practical demonstration on the shop floor, answering questions about merchandising, stock management, and pricing. The team was really welcoming and friendly throughout.

So I applied online first, uploading my CV and answering a few questions. Then, they called me for a phone interview where we talked about my past retail jobs and why I was keen on joining Boots. After that, I had an in-person interview at the store with the manager. We chatted about how I handle customers, including tricky ones, and if I knew much about Boots' stuff. They also had me do a role-play, pretending to help a shopper find something. The last bit was a quick chat with the area manager about when I could start and my hours. It was pretty detailed but fine, mostly checking if I'm good with customers and a team player.
