First, I applied online and had to do some online tests. These tests determined if I'd move on. Next, I had an in-person interview at the store. It was about 15-20 minutes long and focused on competencies. Interestingly, the interviewer hadn't seen my file or previous answers. They asked general questions about my education and experience, then moved on to competency-based questions.
- What's your motivation for wanting to join Boots?
- Can you share an instance where you needed to be confident?
- How would you handle workplace conflict?

Applied online, then got an email to do a 40-minute online assessment. Two weeks later, they emailed to say I passed and sent a link to book my interview. The interview was supposed to be an hour, but the manager was late and kept taking phone calls. They asked some common interview questions, then took me to the shop floor. I had to recommend a specific product, read leaflets about services, and discuss their benefits. Overall, it was a decent experience.
- How would you respond if a customer expressed dissatisfaction with a product you suggested?
- Which footwear product would you advise a customer to purchase?
- Please review these informational pamphlets on our services and discuss their advantages.

The hiring process is quite lengthy, involving multiple questions that need to be answered before an interview is even granted. Many candidates don't make it past this initial stage because they answer the questions based on their own beliefs, rather than considering how Boots expects them to respond. The in-person interview itself isn't too bad. It's quite quick, and at the store I was interviewed at, they're always short-staffed, so the expectation is to start working as soon as possible after the interview.
- What constitutes good customer care in your opinion?
