First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Boots.
Customer Advisor
So, first thing, I wore a black long dress with a blazer and converse. They took me to the interview room, which was the manager's office. They asked me questions about my background, the brand, and also about past situations and how I handled them. Then, we moved to the shop floor. I had to pick a product and talk about what's good about it, why it's appealing, and why I chose that particular product. After that, I went to a specific area and had to say what's good about it and what needs fixing. Finally, I had to mention what I liked about the store's look and what could be made better.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- I'd like to hear about a time things went wrong for you and how you corrected it.

I did an online assessment, and then I was called in to the store two weeks later. They wanted us to get people to come over to the No7 counter and do their makeup with 4 different products. It was around 10am and very quiet, and I only had an hour to get someone over, which was very hard. You could tell the customers were frustrated with it. I managed to sell plenty of products, but it wasn't enough to be successful in the interview. I think the criteria is hard, but at least the interviewer was nice.
- Can you tell me about your favorite No7 product and the reasons behind your choice?
Customer Advisor
First, there was an online assessment where you had to think like a customer and focus on being a team player, considerate, customer-first, and following rules. It took 5 days to get interview invites after this. Then, I went in for an interview. After handing over my passport for copying, we sat down and discussed my motivations for wanting to work at Boots, my retail experience, and behavioral questions about customer service, mistakes, and going the extra mile. Afterwards, we moved to the shop floor for more questions about handling angry customers, making customers feel welcome, and identifying confident vs. unsure shoppers. I also had to discuss a product, explaining its features and benefits, and then pitch it to a mother with a young child. Due to fewer customers, I demonstrated interacting with shoppers and selling a product to a team member. Finally, I was asked to identify store improvements and how I'd organize an aisle. The whole process took an hour, and I received a job offer via phone call two days later.
- how would you handle an upset customer
