Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Boom Media Global.
Marketing Assistant
Arrived to loud, bad music and a silly, unprofessional questionnaire before the first interview. The first interview was okay - didn't get to say much, nothing explained in detail, but it was fast. Planned to spend a day for the second interview, expecting to shadow someone to see what the job is like. Instead, drove an hour to a Walmart to help set up a table and then waited at Subway for four hours. Left after half the day. The whole process felt unserious, with typos in the job description, the office vibe, and the 'shadow day.' Wish them luck, but they should hire specialists instead of using a 'step-by-step program' where no one masters a skill. That would make things smoother and the job more appealing.
- Can you draw something funny?
Marketing Assistant
I went to an interview at a small office. The receptionist was playing loud pop music. I was given a clipboard with an application that had weird questions and sent to a cramped waiting room with not enough seats and a TV playing hip hop videos. After I turned in the application, I waited for the CEO, Edwin Jacques, to show up. He talked a lot about the business and the interview process. I got to the second round, which is a full day thing they didn't mention until later. I was on time for the second interview, and it was the same loud music and crowded waiting room. A half hour passed, and the CEO showed up. I didn't stay for the day-long 'shadowing' because my gut told me it wasn't the right place. The loud music and videos might be to seem young or to weed people out.
- What brand needs a makeover, and how would you use direct marketing to do it?
- Can you point out three examples of direct marketing right here in this room?
- Tell me about something you like that other people might think is silly.
Marketing Assistant
The interview has 3 parts. First, I meet with the management team to talk about the clients and what the company does. The second part involves observation. I watch them at an event and see how they work. I'm also with a Corporate Trainer who trains someone else and observes me. In the final round, I meet with the CEO, and he asks about what I've learned and observed.
- What do you seek in a new company?
