I applied online, got contacted for an interview, and then they did a background check before hiring me. Just so you know, this is a SALES job. Saying 'I love books' won't make you stand out because everyone says that. Being well-read is good, but don't think this place is like a library. They want people to sell memberships and magazine trials, so you should know about those programs and how you'd sell them before your interview. Show that you're confident and comfortable with sales, and talk about your knowledge of those programs, and you'll probably get an offer.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you share your past sales experience?
  • Describe how you would market magazine trials.
  • Explain your strategy for selling memberships.

I got called after applying online, then had a manager interview. The next day, I interviewed with another manager. Both times we talked in the cafe, which was a bit weird because of the customers. One manager even stopped to talk to a customer mid-interview. They really focused on the Magazines for Millionaires discount cards and program, saying if I wasn't confident selling them, I should look elsewhere. After a few days, they called about my background check. A few days later, I checked again and it wasn't done yet. Then I got the call that it went through. I went in to fill out a lot of paperwork in the messy back room, needing my ID and social security card. I wanted to keep some papers about expectations, but they said no.

I applied online and filled out a survey. Then I went to the store and talked to the general manager and assistant general manager. They seemed to like me and said they would call me back. They initially said three days, but after I called on the fourth day, they said another week. After another week with no call, I called again. They asked for my phone number again and said they were going to run a background check. A week later, I got the job offer.
