Baker
Got a call from a manager about a month after applying. I missed it because of a dentist appointment, but he wanted to check if I was still looking for work and left his contact info. I called him back the same day and left a message. I tried calling again after two days to express my interest and again a week later. I decided it wasn't worth it after that. I'm not sure if I'd want to work for someone who is rude and unprofessional enough to not return a call or send a rejection email. Maybe I dodged a bullet. It's a shame employers think it's okay to waste your time and ghost you, but if a candidate did the same, they'd be dismissed.

Cook
I connected with the Exec Chef initially because the position needed filling before the school year began. He then invited me for an in-person chat. During our meeting, he went over my background and kept saying I was overqualified. I told him I needed work for bills and to avoid boredom. The hiring process took a while because he was unsure about my skills and if I'd fit in.
- What are your 5-year career aspirations?
Barista
I applied online and then got a phone call within a week to set up an interview. It was mostly a face-to-face meeting where they explained the job details. They wanted to know about my past jobs and what I did. I met with the manager and shift lead one-on-one, and it lasted about 30 minutes. They also let me ask them any questions I had. I prepped by writing out answers to common questions, but it wasn't really necessary. If you're comfortable talking to new people, you should be fine.
- What might a previous employer or manager say about your work ethic?
- How would you handle a disagreement with a colleague at work?
- Have you worked as a barista before?
