I didn't get past the HR round because they were seeking senior candidates. The HR person was really nice though. I didn't get any feedback even after sending a follow-up email. Overall, it was a good experience.

I submitted a spontaneous application. The whole process took a bit over 5 weeks from the first contact until the offer. It included these steps: 1. An in-person meeting at the office with the manager and a senior from the field. This was mainly to explain about Bol.com. 2. A technical assignment to complete at home. It was similar to tasks you might get on the job. The assignment allowed plenty of room to show off skills. 3. A discussion at the office about the technical assignment. 4. An intelligence and affinity test to do at home. It was unclear why this was needed. 5. A meeting with a meta-manager and an HR person. First, they discussed the test results, then another interview. In this final round, they've probably already decided they want you, but they want an extra chat just to be sure. 6. An offer. An HR person calls with a salary proposal. Two notes about the process: a) The initial salary offer was barely more than a PhD salary, but it was negotiable. b) Working at Bol.com is super fun. I'd recommend anyone looking for great colleagues and a tailored challenge to apply at Bol.com!

Behavioral Technical Other

The interview process had several parts like talking to different people on the team, managers, taking personality tests, and doing some technical tasks. After each part, I got feedback on whether they wanted to move forward, and they always kept me in the loop. However, sometimes I had to wait a good while between stages to hear back, which made me wonder how things were going.
