Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Boehringer Ingelheim.
Principal Scientist
First, there was an email stating that if my application matched the qualifications, it would be forwarded to the department. After about two weeks of silence, I received a call from the department asking if HR had contacted me, and that we should actually have a first conversation now. The first meeting could be postponed. On the following workday, I was contacted by HR for the first time to schedule an appointment. The first conversation was friendly and mainly involved technical questions. In the second interview, which lasted 6.5 hours, I was asked to give a 20-minute presentation on my achievements in this field and a 20-minute presentation on a given task. This was followed by individual meetings with managers and team members. Overall, the people were nice, open, and friendly. Unfortunately, after 2.5 weeks and only upon my inquiry, I received a very impersonal rejection. Since there were internal applicants, this position most likely went to them. It would save everyone involved time if only positions that are actually to be filled externally were advertised externally.

Scientist
The first two rounds went really well, with quick responses and follow-ups from HR. However, after the final onsite interview, I had a negative experience. Even though I didn't get the job, I felt candidates deserve more respect. They should at least be informed via phone or email, as this ghosting has been complained about by others. I was left waiting for months, sending several emails about the process with no reply. I finally called them for an answer. On the same day, one HR person said I was still on the waiting list, and another 10 minutes later said I was out and to check my email thoroughly. I checked all my email boxes (spam, junk, deleted) and found no such email. The conflicting information within a short time made the process seem like a joke. They also didn't provide feedback due to this attitude. I believe HR should approach candidates positively regardless of the outcome, especially after a final round, not the opposite. Overall, I'm very disappointed with the HR and recruiting team's indifferent attitude. I won't consider this company again.
- Can you discuss the technical aspects of your past research projects?
Scientist
I had a phone interview and then a full-day site interview where I met with employees and directors from different teams. The interview process was pretty simple. They were really responsive and organized throughout. Expect to answer both technical and behavioral questions. The interview questions weren't too hard. They responded quickly after the interview.
