First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BNY.
Fund Accountant
The interview was about an hour long and was completely technical. No behavioral or situational questions were asked. We talked about how payments, accruals, and receivables are booked and processed. We also covered how Net Asset Value (NAV) is calculated and reconciled.
- Can you explain prepayment and accrual, how they are booked, and the difference between Private Equity Fund and Hedge Fund accounting?
Fund Accountant
First, recruiters will reach out to selected applicants. They'll then let you know about the next steps and if you're moving on to talk to the hiring manager. The hiring manager and team will then set up interviews with your potential manager and teammates. These can be in-person at a Citi office or virtual over video call. Then there's a final interview.
- Could you define what a hedge fund is?
- What is IRR and what is its formula?
- Can you provide a journal entry for Accrual and Prepaid?
Senior Accountant
Had a phone interview about legal documents for work and salary expectations. Then, a Zoom video interview where I introduced myself, explained why I wanted to join BNY, and discussed derivatives, the difference between futures and forwards, corporate actions, options, and stock splits.
- Can you explain what derivatives are?
- What's the difference between a futures contract and a forward contract?
- Could you describe a Corporate Action?
