Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BNP Paribas Personal Finance.
Data Science Intern
The interview was completely technical. We started with a mutual introduction and then I presented a relevant project in English. Finally, there were questions about the project and the field in general.
- Can you define what a random forest is?
Data Scientist
The interview started with a fit-focused discussion: introduce yourself, talk about your motivations, and share your experiences. This was followed by a technical test: a one-page, double-sided coding exercise, exclusively in pandas, covering data manipulation, joins, and groupby. The overall difficulty was moderate, accessible, and reasonable.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your hobbies?
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What are your motivations for this role?
Data Scientist
At BNP, the interview process typically has three parts: first, a technical interview to check your job skills, then a chat with a manager to see how you'd fit in operationally, and finally, an HR interview.
- Can you explain the distinction between supervised and unsupervised learning?
- What's your approach to handling a dataset with significant class imbalance?
- Could you outline the complete lifecycle of a machine learning project?
