I found the job on LinkedIn and got an email from recruiting to set up an interview. After that first one, I scheduled a second interview with the fellowship director and someone who is currently a fellow there. In both interviews, they asked about my past experiences and skills, and I also got to ask them questions. Talking to the current fellow really helped me get a feel for BluShark's culture and what the job is really like.

I was really impressed with their interview process. It was thorough and my interviews were scheduled at a pretty good pace. I never felt rushed and was encouraged to ask questions during each of our Zoom calls. They wanted to make sure that myself and their company were a good fit for each other so we had the same goal in mind. I did travel to their DC office to do my last interview. That sealed the deal. Everyone I met was genuinely kind and enthusiastic. I was happy to accept their offer.

The hiring process was a bit chaotic. I first spoke with HR, then had a second and third interview, but wasn't told who I'd be meeting for the third one. The interviewers seemed unsure of themselves. After the third round, I found out I wasn't selected because they hired someone with more experience, which I understand. They initially wanted me for an Account Manager role, and my first interview was for that. I had to do a "test" where I gave a report with only 10 minutes to prepare. I felt like they weren't interested in my actual experience with reports and metrics, but rather that I follow their specific format. I used my company's typical approach, and didn't get the position. The whole thing took about 3 months, which felt very drawn out and disorganized. The job titles on LinkedIn didn't always match the actual roles on the website. Some postings mentioned flying to DC for a next phase, which wasn't in the LinkedIn description. Reading some Glassdoor reviews also raised concerns about potentially forced reviews. It seems like they're trying to improve, but need better hiring processes and communication from upper management.

I went through a phone screen, then a Skype interview, followed by an in-person interview. All parts of the process went really well and were super informative and quick. I really appreciated how insightful and positive the interviewers were. The atmosphere felt open and laid-back, and everyone was genuinely friendly. It struck me as a fantastic place to learn and grow within a company. I was so excited about the opportunity! Although I did get an offer, I had to decline it because I'm relocating to another state for family reasons. I'd definitely consider BluShark again in the future if I happen to move back to the area!
