First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Executive Assistant
Since I started as a temp, my interview was basically being on assignment for a few months, and then they met with me to offer me the job as a direct employee. For those not coming through a temp agency, it's harder. There's a test with math and English—I needed a tutor for the math parts, but they gave us samples. There was also a typing test, and I think you needed at least 46 wpm. Oh, and a drug screen. Back then it was a written test in person, but later when I applied for other jobs there, the test was online.
- What is the most crucial trait an executive assistant needs to have?
Administrative Assistant
The recruiter found my resume online and gave me a call. Then I had to do some skills testing and a full day of back-to-back interviews. I met with the VP Admin Assistant, two managers and a director at the same time, and then two other directors, one in person and one over the phone. It was a long day and they asked a lot of the same questions. The interviews felt unfocused, like they weren't sure what they were looking for. They seemed to be using the same material, asking the same basic questions. Kind of basic.
- What is most important to you regarding a manager?
Administrative Assistant
The interview process involved two main stages. Initially, I met with staff and an HR Manager. Following that, I had an interview with an executive. About a week after, the HR manager contacted me, and surprisingly, she wasn't aware of my salary expectations. Ultimately, they offered a six-month contract role instead of the full-time position that was advertised. The stated reason was their inability to quantify a software skill, which was unexpected given the job posting mentioned all skills would be assessed via testing.
- What is your vision for this position going forward?
- Can you describe your software skills?
- What are your salary expectations?
