Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Business Analyst
The first few interviews went well, but when it was time to interview with the hiring manager, they were unprofessional and gave off a vibe that it wouldn't be a good place to work.
- Can you tell me about your past work experience?
Business Analyst
I talked to a recruiter first for a contract role. Then I had two phone interviews, they were quick and friendly, mostly behavioral questions. After a couple of weeks, I had an in-person interview on site with two managers. It felt like they had already made up their minds before I got there, which was a bummer. The questions felt petty and almost rude sometimes. They asked about an old contract ending from years ago at a big software company, seemed more interested in finding flaws than assessing my skills. One manager implied my tech background wouldn't help in a role focused on prepping and shaping tech projects, saying 'we just tell a story and let the engineers figure it out.' I didn't get why they'd bring me in if they already decided that after reading my resume. My questions about the role were ignored as they described it briefly then quizzed me on agile, which contradicted their earlier point about technicality. When I asked about the ideal candidate, they just said 'someone who likes to work a lot.' That was pretty much it. Not sure if this is standard or if it was an issue with my recruiters, but I expected more professionalism from a big Detroit company.
- Can you tell me the size of your team?
- Could you explain how and why a contract you had at a well-known software company ended, from over four years ago?
- How do you see your technical background fitting into a role that preps and forms technical projects?
Business Analyst
I had a face to face interview, a drug screen, and a background screening. It was a group interview with about three people. They asked behavioral and testing questions.
- There were a lot of questions about processing and how you'd handle conflict.
- Tell me about your time management skills.
- How would you handle UAT testing?
