Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blue Apron.
Recruiting Specialist
I applied online and heard back in a few days. The interview was the next day, followed by a call with an HR Manager. I had two good interviews, and the final comment was that I align perfectly with the founders' vision. After the first interviewer went on vacation without a response, I emailed them. I got an email saying they chose another candidate. Okay, but they sent me a generic rejection for a job I didn't even apply for. All the feedback was positive, and I was told I was in the final stage, expecting an offer. But that didn't happen. No one called, and despite multiple emails, I got rejections for a role I never applied for. I later found out they rejected me because they considered me for a different position than the one I applied for. They said I was too overqualified for my application, but not qualified enough for the role they thought I was interviewing for. As a recruiter myself, I always reach out personally to candidates we pass on, but they sent generic emails. My advice: look elsewhere if you want a professional candidate process. Improve your hiring needs oversight because top talent doesn't mind taking a step back to grow in a startup.

Recruiter
I applied online and then HR reached out to set up a phone interview. The call was for the next day and was about 20 minutes long. I spoke with the Director of Talent, and based on what she asked, she seemed to need a very specific profile. The company is a startup that's growing fast and needs someone with startup experience and a strong network of engineers in this field.

Recruiting Coordinator
I applied online and got a virtual interview the next day where I had to record myself answering questions on video. It was a cool way to interview, and the questions were standard screening questions. The day after that, I was invited for an onsite interview at their NY office. I met with four people who were very nice and asked about my experience and qualifications. After the interview, I had to complete an exercise within 5 days. I got the offer a week later.
