Technical Consultant
The interview process for this role was pretty smooth. It had 4 steps: first an HR call, then a call with the Manager or Team Leader, followed by an assessment and review with a Lead Consultant, and finally a Culture call with the department lead or senior director. All of these happened over Zoom. The interviews were really helpful in understanding the team and the job. The HR Recruiter did a good job keeping me updated on the stages and what to expect. Everyone I spoke with was nice, easy to talk to, and open, which made me feel good about applying here.

Technical Consultant
The hiring process involved four stages. Initially, I had a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the role, my background, and my reasons for seeking a new position. The second interaction was with my prospective manager, aimed at aligning expectations. Following this, I was given a take-home assignment with several tasks representative of the job. The third stage was a discussion with a team member about my assignment solution and the position's responsibilities. The final interview focused on cultural fit and alignment with the company and team.

Consultant
The interview had two main parts. First, there was a live interview with three people. One focused on front-end questions, and the other two on back-end. They asked really broad questions and seemed determined to prove they knew more than me, like they had a fixed mindset. They weren't rude, but it felt like they saw me as inferior. One of them was on his phone the whole time. They said they liked me and wanted to proceed to the next step, which was an offline assessment. For the offline assessment, they gave me their project's source code and a 10-page PDF with the task. I had to make a change related to Jackrabbit, traverse some nodes, and visualize them as a tree in a JSP page. It sounded simple, but I spent three days just trying to get the project running because the documentation was old, the project wouldn't build, and it had known issues I found on their website. Then I spent a few hours implementing the required changes and some bonus tasks. I presented my work, and they said it was more than they expected, that I passed, and they'd make me an offer. Three days later, the recruiter called. We'd agreed on a net monthly salary of 4500, but she said I was too young to ask for that much and offered 2500 net, explaining they wanted to avoid big pay gaps. I'd never experienced age discrimination before. I worked really hard on their assignments and interviews, spending over 20 hours, so of course, I turned down the offer.
- Can you tell me about your favorite design pattern and explain when and why you'd use it?
- What are your thoughts on microservices versus monoliths?
- Could you explain the situations where you'd prefer SQL over NoSQL?
