First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Blizzard Entertainment.
3D Artist
I was contacted by a senior recruiter on Linkedin about a potential role. We spoke, and they outlined the next steps, mentioning an interview with a director the following week. However, I was ghosted after two weeks when I attempted to follow up. Another recruiter reached out to schedule an interview, but it was canceled because I was already in the process with the senior recruiter, and nothing further happened. This experience has diminished my enthusiasm for the company; such small oversights have a significant impact. I regret not getting the chance to discuss my work with the art director or at least receive an explanation.
- Which games made by Blizzard do you play?
UI Artist
I applied on Blizzard's website and got an email from a recruiter a few days later. We had a quick 10-minute Zoom call to go over my personal info and resume. Then, I had a 30-minute Zoom interview with two people where they asked standard questions like why I chose UI artist, about the WOW art style, and the connection between UX and UI. Even though I was nervous because English is my second language, they were patient and encouraging. After that, I got an art test with a two-week deadline. I tried my best to show all my strongest abilities and create a cool layout design. Following the art test submission, I was notified that I could proceed. The next step involved three 1-hour Zoom interviews, each with 3-4 interviewers. They asked many questions about my work experience, including how I handle conflicts with teammates and what I'd do if discrimination occurred. A week after these interviews, I received an offer.
- Have you played WOW and if so, what character did you play?
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- How would you handle a situation where your Lead's request conflicts with your own opinion?
UI Artist
Applied online on Blizzard's website, and then an internal recruiter reached out two days later about my application. After getting through two initial phone screenings (one with the recruiter and another with the team leads), and completing a take-home design test, I was invited on-site for a lunch, a tour of the campus, and then about 5 hours of back-to-back interviews with 10-12 people related to the role. The questions at this stage were mostly about personality and cultural fit, and everyone I spoke with was really nice and answered my questions. I got an offer the day after, with paperwork to follow. The whole process from applying to getting the offer took about 1.5 months. Everyone I met was very polite, and the recruiter's communication was excellent, and the team seemed passionate and skilled.
- Could you describe how you approach the process of designing user interfaces for games?
- Can you tell me about the different types of teams you've worked with in terms of size, project scope, and their working methods?
- Which games do you currently play?
