The interview process was really unclear, and it seemed like the company wasn't sure what they were looking for in a product manager. The recruiting part was even worse, with recruiters being rigid and not communicating well. I went through multiple interviews over several weeks. I was given a case study to complete within 72 hours, which involved solving a problem and then a follow-up case study. This interview got rescheduled several times to fit someone's schedule in India. During the case study presentation, the interviewers asked questions that suggested they hadn't even read my work. They didn't turn on their cameras and seemed distracted and uninterested. Afterward, I was told the feedback was positive and I'd proceed to the next stage. Then, they just went silent. I never heard back, and the experience ended as abruptly and unprofessionally as possible.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

So the whole thing started with a recruiter call, then I talked to the hiring manager. After that, there was a live project to do with some other team folks, and then I had interviews with the data and engineering teams. The group interviews with the team were pretty long, longer than the first few chats. The live project was a typical PM problem they wanted me to solve. I really want to give a shout-out to Anthony for the technical recruitment part - he was super helpful, sharing tons about the company culture, which was a big deal since I'd be working remotely. Tracy, the hiring manager, was great too, answering all my questions about the job, what they expect, and my first 90 days. It was a really great candidate experience, honestly something a lot of companies don't do well. I ended up taking a job closer to home, but I'd totally recommend interviewing with Blink. They were awesome and have good PM roles for career growth!

I applied on their site and they got back to me three months later. First, I talked to a recruiter, which went well and made me excited about the job because they seemed really into it and made the role sound great. Then, I got a take-home task. It was pretty straightforward, just answer some basic questions about a project I'd done, making sure to include metrics. After that, I had a call with a PM. This is where it went downhill. The interviewer wasn't trained at all. After bragging about his experience, he asked what I was working on, but he actually wanted a full project presentation. My short explanation confused him. He couldn't explain what he wanted and then lectured me on how PMs need to communicate clearly, which felt patronizing. I tried to manage the situation by asking for clarification on the structure, but it didn't help. The interview was clearly going badly. When I asked about the hiring manager, he made an inappropriate joke about not knowing if he was the manager and suggested it might be bad if he was. This felt like he was criticizing me. He kept calling me 'man,' and as a woman, I wondered about the company culture. He also said nobody really knew the specific role. He mentioned his own onboarding was basically 'here's the bathroom, here's the food, now go work on this thing.' At that point, I knew I didn't want to work there. I got a rejection email (not surprisingly) and responded with my concerns, which I never do, but this experience was so bad I thought they'd want to know. I never heard back.
