I sent in my application online and then got a call from the HR team. They asked if I was still into the job and if I could do a Skype interview. I said sure, and they emailed me back to confirm the time we picked for the Skype chat. Two other HR interns interviewed me on Skype. They were cool and asked stuff like going over my resume, why I wanted an unpaid internship, and my future career goals. It took about 20 minutes. A few days later, the manager called me for a second interview, asked if I could start immediately, and then offered me the job.

It started with a phone screen where I had to walk through my resume. After that, it was either a Skype or on-site interview, depending on how far I lived from the company. For the Skype or on-site, I met with someone from the team and the general manager. They mostly asked questions about my resume and M&A. Since I'd taken an M&A class, I knew some stuff about their business.

I spoke with HR twice over the phone. The first call was basically to get to know me and my skills. After that, HR suggested some roles I might be interested in and gave me details about them. Since HR seemed sure I'd be a good fit, I got a call the next day saying they had candidates willing to work for free for the job I applied for, and if I didn't agree to that, they wouldn't proceed with my application.

They looked over my resume and the recruiter asked about my understanding of their business, company structure, and the PE industry. It was a Skype interview, about 30 minutes. The second interview was with the managing director, lasting about 15 minutes.
