I applied as an internal candidate. There were two rounds of interviews, and a decision was made within 8 weeks. The first round was a panel interview with two managers, and the final round was with the hiring manager. BlackBerry HR was helpful in organizing everything.

The interview process was pretty straightforward. It started with phone interviews and then I had to visit the office. I met with a panel of interviewers. They didn't seem very friendly or enthusiastic about their jobs or the company. They stuck to specific points and asked questions in a very robotic way, not really exploring my past experience in a conversational manner. I got the impression that maybe they had already made a decision or were just looking for specific answers they had in mind. I'm not sure if they were really engaged in the conversation. The expectations for RIM seemed quite high, maybe even unrealistic given the company and its products. The workplace itself felt very dull and uninspiring.

First, a screening interview with an internal recruiter, which was pretty easy, though the recruiter wasn't the most personable. Then, a phone interview with the hiring manager. This wasn't too tough because the hiring manager was clear about what they wanted and didn't ask any tricky questions. Finally, there was an in-person group interview with the hiring manager and some colleagues. It wasn't overly challenging, but the process felt a bit disorganized and wasn't facilitated very well. I did get the job in the end.
