First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Black Sheep Coffee.
Barista
It was a really calm interview in the back of the coffee shop. They made me a coffee of my choice and then I was shown to the back where the owner was doing interviews. The shop front was super busy but the team still took the time to make me a drink, which was a really good first impression.
- What makes you want to work here?
- How do you manage under stressful situations?
- What would you do if a customer was angry?
Cashier Barista
The interview process was quick and easy, and you could do it online or in person. They had good communication and were quick to respond. The application was online only, and there were good interview slots available. The interviewer was friendly, and you could get feedback if you wanted.
- What customer service experience do you have?
- How would you approach problem-solving?
Manager
The interview process was quite drawn out and featured a lot of the same questions. Even after finishing the whole thing, I never got a follow-up email, which says a lot about how they communicate. The first part of the interview was good; the interviewer paid attention and made things feel relaxed. But the later parts were not as good. The interviewer kept cutting me off when I was talking, making it hard to get my points across. Also, the interviewer kept boasting about how much they knew and seemed to look down on what others could do, which was awkward. In a big city like London, the hospitality world can feel small because everyone knows each other, and people tend to share their experiences. I've heard that some jobs might only be open to people of certain nationalities. All in all, my experience shows that the company could definitely improve its interview and hiring procedures.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
- What makes you want to join our company?
General Manager
No phone interview, went straight to a face-to-face. They actually cancelled the first interview 2 hours before it was supposed to happen because of an emergency. We rescheduled for the next week. It took them 2 weeks after that to ask for referrals, and then another week to let me know they weren't moving forward.
- Tell me about your experience managing teams.
- Do you have knowledge of P&L?
- Can you provide examples of how you've improved stores?
