First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BKF Engineers.
Design Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward. First, I spoke with a recruiter, and then they scheduled an in-person interview at the office I was interested in. I met with the VP and one of the principal/manager folks. Overall, it wasn't too difficult; they mainly wanted to get a sense of my background and personality to see if I'd be a good fit.
- Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Marketing Coordinator
The recruiter reached out to me for a phone screen and it took a few days for them to get back to me to schedule. I actually had to follow up. When we had the call, I felt it went really well and was told I’d have an update on next steps by the end of the week. As I followed up, I kept getting new timelines to receive an update that were not met. During one of my first follow ups, she asked me to remind her of my experience. I heard back 3 weeks later that I hadn’t gotten to the next stage of the interview process.
- Can you tell me about your experience in the A/E/C industry?
- What's your background with the RFP process?
- How much experience do you have with proposals?
BKF Engineer
So I had this first interview, it went on for about 2 hours. The HR coordinator, Alex, he really laid out the job and what would be expected of me to make sure I was sure this is the path I wanted to take. He seemed like a pretty cool dude. Even though there weren't any official openings yet, they wanted to be proactive and get this personality interview done. I think I nailed it, and honestly, if you can hold a conversation and throw in some jokes now and then, you'll probably be good.
- Are you certain that this is the career path you want to pursue?
Civil Engineer
I was initially offered an intern position for the summer of 2020, but unfortunately, Covid led to the cancellation of the entire program. I interviewed again a year later and after months past the application deadline, I found out the PM I would have worked with had already hired someone else. I was then rejected from a different team for "lack of experience", even though I highlighted my design software experience. They didn't ask about it on my resume.
- Have you taken classes x, y, and z?
