Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at BKD.
Audit Associate
The interview process started with an on-campus interview. After that, I was invited back for a visit to their office that lasted a day and a half. There was a dinner the night before, and then a full day of presentations and interviews at the Oak Brook office. A downside was that they didn't cover mileage expenses, only providing gas cards, which isn't helpful for those who don't have a car.
- What are your reasons for wanting to join BKD?
Auditor
The hiring process usually starts with on-campus interviews, followed by a second round at the office you'd be placed in. The first interviews are pretty relaxed, and the recruiter is really down-to-earth and knows their stuff. They don't use the typical 'STAR' method (like 'Tell me about a time when...') but focus more on getting to know you and seeing if you'd fit in with the company culture. They understand that audit skills are learned on the job, not just from college. If you do well in the first round, you'll get invited for an office visit. Pretty much everyone who gets an office visit offer will get a job offer, unless you really don't get along with the partners. During the office visit, you'll meet with three partners or senior managers. For the Indianapolis office, the visit is a great experience. They invite you to town the day before your interviews for an event, often a private tour of Lucas Oil Stadium, followed by dinner with many of the office's partners. After dinner, the staff and seniors usually take you out for another fun event, typically with drinks. The next day is interview day, and if an offer is coming, you'll have it before you leave. I think there's also a personality test at some point.
- Can you tell me about your resume?
- How have your past experiences and involvements shaped you as an employee?
Audit Associate
I got into the interview process through campus recruitment back in 2021. First, I had a chat with an audit manager who asked the typical interview questions, with only a few behavioral ones thrown in. Then, a few days after, I moved on to the final round with a partner. That one was mostly a conversation. I thought it went super well, but unfortunately, I didn't get the job because other candidates had more experience. Still, it was a good interview experience overall!
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- What makes you the right candidate for this role?
- What draws you to Auditing and public Accounting?
