I was given clear instructions on how to get into the hospital complex, where to park, and where to pick up my visitors pass. SLCH has a very strict visiting policy, you will not be allowed to navigate the hospital without first checking in. They ask, who are you? Where are you going? and who are you here to see? I had a panel interview and it went pretty well. The team from this department was pretty down to earth, and seemed genuinely interested in getting someone who would be a good fit for the position. I was asked backs PALS questions- getting the questions wrong were not punitive, more so show the educator where I was and how she could help me during orientation. After the interview, they were timely with regards to giving me answers where they were in the hiring process, and if I was still being considered for the position. This is very nice since some places don't even bother to tell you you are no longer in the running.

The interview process involved a 3-hour shadowing session followed by an interview. I shadowed a nurse on a general medicine floor. During the shadowing, I noticed issues like the nurse being responsible for 5-6 patients with no tech support, essential supplies missing from the supply room, and nurses struggling to get timely medical appointments through employee health. After shadowing, there was a panel interview where questions were read from a sheet. The interviewers didn't introduce themselves or share their backgrounds until after the questions, which felt different from my previous positive experience at this hospital during clinicals. I didn't get the job, but honestly, I wouldn't have taken it after that shadowing experience.

Different places have their own interview process. Usually, it starts with a phone interview from corporate HR, followed by local HR. Then, there's a one-on-one HR interview that includes a personality test. After that, you'll interview with the department manager. Some places also include a group interview with various members of the department.
